The wait is over.
Student visa holder data for August puts Australian numbers back ahead of pre-pandemic levels, according to data consultants Studymove.
Managing Director of Studymove, Keri Ramirez, says, “Remarkably, after hitting its lowest point in April 2022, it only took 14 months to return to the same levels of primary student visa holders reported prior to the closure of the international borders. This recovery has been both rapid and unexpected for the sector.”
“If we look into the numbers by sector, the data for August 2023 indicates that student visa holders for Higher Education have already surpassed pre-pandemic levels by 4% compared to March 2022. Additionally, the VET sector has also seen an 8% increase. However, the School sector is still in the recovery process, with only 71% of the primary student visa holders reported in March 2022.” He says.
Interestingly, China has the largest student cohort, with 147,970 students, followed by India (106,386) and Nepal (52,605 students). These three student groups together represent nearly 50% of the total.
This is good news for Australian Education.
