Forty years ago, English Australia (then known as the ELICOS Association) began its journey as the national peak body for the English language sector of international education in Australia.
From its very beginnings, the ELICOS Association played a leadership role in the professionalisation of the international English language sector. The early ELICOS Association members developed the foundations for its continuing successes: establishing a National Council and Secretariat, collaborating on marketing and promotion, promoting professional and governance standards, and advocating with the Federal Government.
Over the years, English Australia has built on these early successes and has continued to lead in representing the English language teaching sector with government, industry stakeholders, the English language teaching profession and international education markets, as well as providing ever-expanding professional development support services for staff in ELICOS colleges.
Last night at the Annual Conference Gala dinner, English Australia celebrated 40 years of operation. A 40-year commemorative booklet was revealed as part of the celebrations and can be seen here.
The booklet provides a history of the organisation and the ELICOS sector with key dates, activities and people highlighted.
The Koala congratulates English Australia on this achievement.
