SUMMARY:Understanding the ESOS framework – assessing Compassionate or Compelling Circumstances
DESCRIPTION:Are all your provider staff aware of how to assess compassionate or compelling circumstances as required under the National Code?\nThe National Code requires education providers to assess compassionate or compelling circumstances in the following situations: \n\nStandard 7 – a possible reason for a release\nStandard 8 – an allowable extension of course duration\nStandard 9 – deferment or suspension of enrolment\n\nThis workshop provides training to academic and professional education provider staff who are assessing student-initiated requests for release\, requests to extend their allowable course duration or requests to defer or suspend their enrolment. \nTraining content includes the issues arising when assessing compassionate or compelling circumstances and what is considered acceptable documentary evidence. \nPresenters\nMelanie Duncan and Danielle Hartridge\, IEP Advisory \n \nMel and Danielle have been active contributors and keen observers of international education in Australia for over three decades. Their longstanding careers in international student compliance and support have led to a collective\, values-based view that exceeding legislated minimum standards overwhelmingly benefits international students and maximises their study experience in Australia. They believe that capacity building for staff is also a core requirement to achieve this objective. \nDanielle and Melanie have been key contributors and supporters of international education in a professional and volunteer capacity. They are well-known and respected and have worked together in different capacities. It made sense to join forces to work with international education providers and professional associations to improve their compliance practices\, policies and procedures. They believe in working with clients to meet and exceed minimum standards across the international student journey.  Working together enables their collective experiences to uplift the quality of the Australian international education sector for the benefit of international students. \nFormat\n\nOnline: via Zoom access via ISANA Events Portal/App\n\nDate & Time\n\nThursday\, 26 November 2026\n2 pm – 4 pm AEST\n\nCost\n\nISANA Members: $100\nISANA Organisational Membership Additional Staff: $150pp\nNon Members: $200pp
