The 2024 round of the Australian Cultural Diplomacy Grants Program (ACDGP) is open.
Indigenous Public Diplomacy is a pillar of DFAT programs; promoting Australia’s creative sector and First Nations identity. It elevates bilateral partnerships and strengthens Australia’s position internationally.
Indigenous public diplomacy enables DFAT to share and promote the diversity and excellence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, expertise and innovation through our overseas network, importantly it;
- promotes the expertise, knowledge and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with a focus on international partnerships and exchange.
- elevates events such as NAIDOC week and Reconciliation Week, in Australia and overseas.
- engages key institutions in the promotion of Australian Indigenous culture internationally, across sectors including media, the arts, business and science.
- supports speaking engagements, tours, workshops, performances and exhibitions to connect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples globally.
Linking Indigenous and non‑Indigenous peoples and communities enables meaningful participation and exchange. Indigenous public diplomacy delivers on the DFAT Indigenous Diplomacy Agenda, building the global engagement of Indigenous Australia.
In partnership with education institutions, this is an opportunity to showcase the culture, science, media, entrepreneurship, and governance expertise of Indigenous Australians.
The sectors capability in international exchange and visitor programs, exhibitions, tours, speaker engagements and partnership with key institutions are well placed to enhance indigenous public diplomacy through the overseas education network.
Australian providers can generate and promote policies and programs that harness the soft power asset of Indigenous Australians to enhance international influence. The ACDGP calls for projects across Australia’s creative sector and with First Nations identity, to:
- promote Australia’s creative sector internationally.
- support collaborative and innovative projects that promote Australia as a modern, diverse nation and a source of creative excellence.
- build people-to-people and institutional links internationally.
- Promote First Nations creatives internationally as part of our Foreign Policy and soft power.
- reinforce ‘Revive’, Australia’s National Cultural Policy.
