Victoria has honoured its exceptional international students, graduates, and education sector leaders at the 2025 Victorian International Education Awards, presented by Study Melbourne on Thursday 27 November. The awards showcase the profound impact international education has on communities across Victoria and around the world—recognising leadership, innovation and the transformative power of global learning.

This year’s student and graduate winners each receive $3,000 to support their studies and professional development, with an additional $5,000 awarded to the recipient of the prestigious Premier’s Award – International Student of the Year.

That honour went to Adiba Erfan, a student changemaker whose journey from Hawthorn Melbourne’s General and Academic English program to a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne has inspired many. Adiba’s volunteer work spans continents—supporting women’s education, health and empowerment initiatives in both Victoria and Afghanistan. Her leadership embodies the global citizenship at the heart of international education.

Other outstanding winners include:

  • Emerging Leader – International Alumni Award: Emily Chin, Deakin University
  • International Student / Graduate Entrepreneur of the Year: Dr Ruwini Cooray, Deakin University
  • International Student of the Year – English Language Training: Adiba Erfan, Hawthorn Melbourne
  • International Student of the Year – Higher Education: Angela Sojan, University of Melbourne
  • International Student of the Year – Regional: Vish Goswami, Deakin University
  • International Student of the Year – Research: Siyuan Yan, Monash University
  • International Student of the Year – Vocational Education and Training: Eva Roche, Melbourne Metropolitan College

Each recipient has made a significant contribution to their academic community, with leadership, innovation, and resilience at the centre of their achievements.

In the industry categories, Federation University claimed the prestigious Premier’s Award for International Education Provider of the Year 2025. As regional Victoria’s largest education institution, the university has long been recognised for its strong student support structures and community connections.

Federation University also received the Excellence in International Student Employability and Career Development award and was named a finalist for Excellence in Transnational Education and International Partnerships, highlighting its comprehensive approach to global engagement.

Other industry award winners include:

  • Excellence in International Student Experience: The Lounge International Student Centre, Geelong
  • Excellence in International Student Employability and Career Development: Federation University
  • Excellence in Transnational Education and International Partnerships: Monash University
  • Excellence in International Student Accommodation: Monash Residential Services
  • International Student Employer of the Year: Cenitex

These organisations were recognised for initiatives that support a safe, inclusive, and enriching experience for international students throughout Victoria.

The Victorian International Education Awards continue to highlight the dynamic contributions international students make to Victoria’s social, cultural, and economic life. From community leadership to academic excellence and pioneering industry partnerships, the 2025 winners represent the best of global education and the shared impact it creates.
