Around 1,000 international students are expected to attend the Victorian Government’s annual International Student Careers Fair next week, an initiative aimed at improving employment outcomes for international students and helping employers access a locally educated global talent pool.
Now in its third year, the Study Melbourne International Student Careers Fair 2026 is an opportunity for the Victorian Government to work with employers, industry bodies and education providers to address employment barriers for international students and graduates and promote post-study pathways.
Caroline Hartnett, Victorian Government Director – International Education and Study Melbourne, said the Fair will deliver meaningful benefits for international students and recent graduates seeking to gain professional work experience post their study in Victoria, including opportunities to learn about graduate roles and internships.
“International students are highly capable and, with the same qualifications as their domestic graduate peers, can help to fill Victoria’s knowledge and skills gaps across a range of industry sectors,” she said.
The 25 organisations participating in this year’s Fair represent a diverse range of industries, including the AFL, Bupa, Cenitex, GHD, L’Oréal, Marriott Hotels and the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning.
Some international students have reported experiencing barriers at other job fairs, including restrictions on temporary visa holders applying for roles, highlighting the importance of initiatives designed to connect employers with internationally educated graduates.
The Careers Fair is one of a number of Study Melbourne initiatives aimed at building international students’ employability, leadership skills and professional networks.
