Griffith Announces New Accommodation Build

As we get closer to the start of the first ‘Semester’ intake of 2024, the International Student Accommodation situation again comes into focus. Griffith University is planning for the future and has announced a new build on their Gold Coast Campus.

The new student accommodation tower will house 459 new beds in conjunction with Campus Living Villages.

Construction is set to commence in the first half of 2024, with completion forecast for mid-2026, taking the total number of students living on campus close to 1,000.

Professor Sarah Todd, Vice President (Global) at Giffith University, says “The growing awareness in recent years of both Griffith’s Gold Coast campus and the city as an attractive study destination has led to increased interest from international students from a range of countries wanting to join us.  The availability of quality accommodation, especially when it is purposely designed to meet students’ needs, is a key attribute students are looking for. This development will add to our capacity to welcome more international students to Griffith, and assure both them and us that they will be well looked after while studying with us.”

It makes sense.

Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Carolyn Evans, said the Gold Coast campus is booming and the new student accommodation tower will help the university keep up with demand.

“The tower will feature a mix of studio, two-bedroom rooms, and accessible units with a substantial uplift in amenities to benefit all residents which includes a new swimming pool, cinema and a range of contemporary communal spaces.”

“We are committed to offering our students a first-class university experience and will continue to work with our existing on-campus partner, Campus Living Villages and other off-campus student accommodation providers, to ensure accommodation meets the needs of our students.

“Griffith’s Gold Coast campus offers students the opportunity to study in one of the most enviable places to live in the world and we want to assist our students in having a place to live conveniently situated on campus.”

As noted, the accommodation is being built in conjunction with Campus Living Villages who built, owns and operates the existing Griffith University Village, and has done since 2006.

The new tower is the company’s first new build in the Australian market post-COVID.

The Koala hopes it is one of many more.
