Monash University has announced it will invest A$1 billion (RM2.8 billion) to build a new campus in Kuala Lumpur, in partnership with TRX City.
The campus is expected to open in 2032, with a planned capacity of 22,500 students and 1,700 staff by 2040. It will be built in Kuala Lumpur’s Financial District and will complement Monash’s existing Malaysia campus.
Monash University’s Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Sharon Pickering announced the future Monash Malaysia Campus while in Kuala Lumpur, joined by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during his visit for the ASEAN Summit.
The future campus will offer courses in priority fields such as digitisation, AI and cyber security, climate change and sustainability, healthcare and digital health, semiconductor and advanced manufacturing, banking and finance.
Monash expects the investment to contribute A$6.5 billion (RM19.1 billion) to Malaysia’s economy over the next decade through infrastructure development, innovation, workforce participation, and community benefits.
TRX City Sdn Bhd is wholly owned by Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance and is the master developer of the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) district, designed to serve as the nation’s international financial centre.
