National Student Ombudsman seeking Education Advisory Group members

The National Student Ombudsman (NSO) is seeking expressions of interest from experienced complaints handling professionals to join its Education Advisory Group and provide strategic insights on the NSO’s education and training initiatives.

The Education Advisory Group will:

  • Shape the NSO’s Education Strategy, Education Plan and overall direction
  • Identify areas of priority where education and training can add greatest value to student experience
  • Share insights and emerging practices in student complaint handling

The NSO is seeking a diverse range of members from across the higher education sector, including university and non-university providers, small and large providers, as well as metropolitan and regional.

It wants professionals with:

  • Complaints handling experience in higher education
  • Contemporary knowledge of better practice approaches
  • Diverse perspectives and inclusive thinking

To apply, applicants need to provide a short statement of no more than 400 words expressing interest and describing your relevant skills, experience in complaint handling, and/or expertise.

The EOI is open now and closes Wednesday, 4 February 2026 at 5.00pm (AEDT).

Tracy Harris is currently interim Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Guild of Education, bringing more than three decades of leadership experience across the international education sector, spanning universities, pathway providers, the federal government and the not-for-profit sector. She is also Principal of Tracy Harris Solutions, a consultancy through which she undertakes independent work and sector commentary. While Tracy Harris Solutions remains active, particularly for her sector commentary, her consultancy work is currently operating at reduced capacity during her tenure as interim CEO. Previously, Tracy led Swinburne College as General Manager and Dean and was Executive Director, Global Development and Performance at RMIT University. She has also held senior roles in the public sector, including with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), involving overseas representation, and within the former Australian Education International (AEI). Tracy also serves on a number of boards across the education sector, including the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA).
