Four units of competency and one short course have been added to the list of courses exempt from registration on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).

The five additions are:

BSBWHS211 – Contribute to the health and safety of self and others

SITXWHS005 – Participate in safe work practices

CHCPRT025 – Identify and report children and young people at risk

TLIF0025 – Follow work health and safety procedures

52863WA – Course in Management of Licensed Premises

The Education Services for Overseas Students (Exempt Courses) Amendment Instrument 2026 commenced on 6 November, amending the original 2021 instrument.

The exemptions allow international students to undertake supplementary training, including courses that may be required for employment, without providers needing CRICOS registration for those courses.

Students cannot obtain a student visa based solely on enrolment in an exempt course.

An updated Supplementary Courses Fact Sheet 2026 is available from the Department of Education.

The legislative instrument is available on the Federal Register of Legislation.
