A major industry-led initiative, Tomorrow’s Women in Construction (TWIC), has just launched in New South Wales, aiming to transform gender representation in one of Australia’s fastest-growing — and traditionally male-dominated — sectors.
With big names such as Multiplex, AJC Architects, Architectus, RP Infrastructure, Richard Crookes Constructions, Northrop, and TTW behind it, TWIC offers every Year 10 girl in NSW a guaranteed one-week work experience placement with a participating company in the property, construction, or design industries. Backed by more than 50 leading firms, the program is focused on visibility, opportunity, and long-term change.
“This is about showing young women the incredible variety of careers in construction — from engineering and architecture to law and sustainability,” says Kat Kister, TWIC Co-Founder. “You can’t be what you can’t see.”
Students are matched to employers based on their interests and supported throughout their placement with age-appropriate mentoring and career guidance. Companies are also given resources to ensure their workplaces provide inclusive, empowering experiences.
