Over the past three months, The Koala News has undertaken industry consultation to take the pulse of where the sector is at and to identify wins to ensure the sector is contributing to a new period that supports Australia’s social and economic prosperity.
Announced on 24 March, with initial feedback being invited on 14 April via email in response to a discussion paper, The Koala News took to the road and conducted two seminars each in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
The face-to-face focus group consultations were an iterative process, working through the discussion paper points, on each occasion seeking to refine and further focus each of them.
Each session was limited in numbers to provide an intimate event that promoted discussion. The points discussed were:
- Trends, Strategy and Collaboration
- Key Agent Issues
- Migration and Accommodation
- Student Support
The Koala thanks a team of industry sector experts who contributed to the process. These include Dr Sarah Todd, Elaine Starkey, Robert Parsonson, Adam Kilburn, and David Bycroft, for their facilitation and leadership.
The Final Report incorporates nine recommendations across four themes:
- Strategic and strong direction and governance
- Returning to being a welcoming destination
- An enhanced student experience
- The need to address social licence

The Koala thanks all involved in the process. Feedback or comments are able to be provided to events@thekoalanews.com
