Building capability with India: Voices of youth
Share on LinkedinShare on TwitterShare on FacebookShare via Email

India has more people aged 18 years of age than the population of Australia; represents our second largest cohort of international students, and shares a range of deep bilateral ties with Australia.

Indian migrants represent the second largest group of overseas-born Australians, with more Indian residents per capita than any other country in the OECD.

So, we are two nations deeply entwined. With Australia’s India Economic Strategy to 2035 underpinned by the diplomacy of people to people exchange – enter the Australia India Youth Dialogue (AIYD).

Hosting impactful track-two youth leadership dialogues for more than a decade, the AIYD has grown this pre-eminent platform for the youth of Australia and India to build enduring partnerships between our two great countries (TKN 8 August 2023).

The AYID is now searching for visionary future leaders, aged 18-40, from both Australia and India to join the 2024 platform for youth engagement in the Australia-India relationship.

Review the outcomes and participants from the previous dialogues here.

Taking place in Australia between 19-22 August 2024, the theme of “the Future of Leadership” will explore how next future generations might impact and capitalise on opportunities presented by global and regional megatrends. Undoubtedly a rich exchange.

Fostering collaboration and promoting people-to-people ties, the AIYD invests in the people that will shape the future bilateral relationship. This is an opportunity to place our best and brightest into the arena, cultivating a diverse alumni community across government, business, civil society, media, arts, culture, sport and more.

The AIYD complements many strategic initiatives, including those outlined in the report, “A Partnership for the Future – Australia’s Education Strategy for India“, released by Minister Clare in November 2023, during the first meeting of the Australia India Education and Skills Council in India (TKN 10 Nov 2023).

Read the report here.

The AIYD platform explores new opportunities in the Australia–India relationship by bringing together the expertise and knowledge of both countries coupled with the goals and aspirations of future leaders of both nations. The AIYD agenda is aligned through:

  • cultivating and fostering the relationship between Australia and India youth.
  • providing support to deal with problems and trends and potentially providing solutions through the innovative ideas of these young leaders during high level discussions.
  • providing deep cultural insight and understanding of the similarities and differences between the respective nations.

Facilitating discussions about economic, political, cultural, social and environmental issues facing both Australia and India, the AIYD will empower future young leaders across the two nations. This is where knowledge generation and exchange germinate.

For Australian institutions looking to understand and engage with India, empowering young leaders through people-to-people exchange is a solid foundation on which to build our national capacity and individual capability.

Applications for the AIYD 2024 close midnight on 7 April, apply here.
