The finalised program for the English Australia conference to be held at the Pullman Hotel in Brisbane in late August has been published.

The program offers and array of sessions ranging from the latest briefings from the Departments of Education and Home Affairs, Monash English’s inclusive language teaching, Differentiation in language classes with Gen AI, Professional Development tools to foster a positive culture, Adapting government policies to support a sustainable International Education market, and much more.

Plenary speakers include Marnie Watson, Vice-President Global at Griffith University, Jon Chew, Chief Insights Officer at Navitas, Mike Mayor, Senior Director at Pearson, Varsha Devi Balakrishnan, Head of Student Insights and Strategy at  Voyage and Phuong Tran, Manager of Assessment at Monash College.

Sophie O’keefe, English Australia’s General Manager of Operations  says “The publication of the 2025 program reflects the hard work of the English Australia Conference program committee who have curated a diverse and engaging program from the many abstract submissions we received.”

Social program

There are three main events on the social program this year. These are:

The Welcome Reception – a great place to meet old and new colleagues and friends. This will be held in the Grand River Ballroom between 5.30pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday 27 August.

Academic Managers Breakfast – Join the Academic Managers’ Special Interest Group (AMSIG) for the annual Academic Managers’ Breakfast, an opportunity for current and aspiring academic leaders to connect, collaborate, and reflect on what it means to lead with resilience.

Aligned with the conference theme of Adapting, Evolving, Leading, this event will explore how you can strengthen your own career resilience while supporting your team to do the same. Over a delicious hot breakfast, we’ll discuss how to stay adaptable, lead with confidence, and help your team build the skills they need to thrive in ever-changing environments.

This is being held 7.30am – 8.50am on Friday 29 August at the Conference Venue

Gala Dinner – The Gala Dinner will be a great opportunity to network with professionals within the industry and reconnect with colleagues and friends. At the Gala Dinner, English Australia will announce the winners of its annual ELICOS Awards. This years theme is ‘Cocktail Botanica’ – think lush greens, botanical prints, floral touches, or garden-inspired chic. A fresh and unexpected blend of cocktail elegance and natural elements. This theme is your invitation to bring a little garden party into your evening look. Playful yet refined, it’s a perfect fit for a late-winter event in Victoria Park as we lean into the promise of spring.

This is held from 7.00pm through 11.00pm at Victoria Park.

The full program can be seen here.
