Student generated content has become one of the most powerful marketing tools in education. From campus tours filmed on phones to day in the life reels shared across social platforms, prospective students increasingly want to hear directly from their peers.
But while institutions are seeing more content than ever before, much of it never makes it to official channels.
That is the gap Adelaide-based creative agency Insider is aiming to close with the launch of Insider Academy, a new training platform designed to improve the quality and usability of content created by students for their institutions.
Announced on 17 February 2026, Insider Academy provides structured training to help students produce content that is not only authentic, but also clear, consistent and ready for institutional use.
“Student generated content has proven to be one of the most effective ways for institutions to connect with prospective students, because students want to hear from other students,” said James Martin, Managing Director of Insider. “The challenge is that while there’s more content than ever, much of it isn’t usable without significant rework. Insider Academy exists to ensure student content is not just authentic, but also clear, consistent and ready to use.”
From authenticity to usability
Across universities, colleges and pathway providers, marketing teams often receive large volumes of student submissions. While the tone may be genuine, the technical quality or structure can limit how and where that content can be deployed.
Insider Academy focuses on practical, real-world skills to address that gap. Students are trained in framing and scripting, lighting and sound, editing for clarity and retention, and understanding what makes content suitable for institutional marketing and communications channels.
The aim is not to replace authenticity with polish, but to bridge the gap between raw content and publishable material.
Tested in the field
The program has already been piloted through Insider’s existing student creator programs, with more than 200 students across more than 20 institutions participating in the training.
Students complete structured learning modules, earn micro credentials and take part in monthly live training sessions. They also receive regular updates on video trends to keep pace with the rapidly evolving social media landscape.
For students, the value extends beyond campus marketing.
“For students, this is about employability,” Martin said. “They’re learning practical skills they can take into the workforce. For institutions, it reduces friction, improves content quality for their marketing channels, and helps teams get more value from the student content already being created.”
Reducing reliance on external agencies
Insider Academy is positioned as a complement to in-house marketing and communications teams. By lifting the baseline quality of student submissions, institutions can rely less on external agencies for routine content creation while maintaining brand alignment and platform standards.
The platform is now being made available more broadly to education providers, with engagement tiers depending on institutional scale and the level of support required.
As competition for students intensifies and digital channels continue to dominate recruitment strategies, initiatives like Insider Academy point to a growing recognition that authenticity alone is no longer enough. Structured support and skills development may be the next step in ensuring student voices are not just heard, but effectively amplified.
