A gentle reminder that submissions to the Education and Employment Legislation Committee’s inquiry into the Education Services for Overseas Students Amendment (Quality and Integrity) Bill 2024 close this Thursday, 26 September.
Submissions to the inquiry initially closed on 1 July. However, they were re-opened on 12 September following protests by the sector over the Government’s indicative enrolment caps for 2025.
Almost forty new submissions had been uploaded onto the inquiry website as at the time of writing, most from private providers of vocational education and training detailing the impact of the Government’s proposed caps. (About 70 submissions were received the first time around, although some were received after 1 July closing date).
Other submissions continue to raise concerns about enrolment limits and the unchecked power given to the Minister in the Bill. This includes the submission by good friend of The Koala, Rob Malicki, CEO, The Global Society who called for the Government to “abandon the proposed enrolment caps” and “consult genuinely with providers”.
A more detailed summary of the new submissions will occur after the closing date.
An additional public hearing will be held on Wednesday, 2 October and the Senate Committee will report on 8 October.
Submissions can be made via the Senate Committee website here.
