The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) has launched an Expression of Interest (EOI) process to establish its inaugural Student Advisory Panel, with international students eligible to apply.
“Students are well placed to provide valuable insight into what is working well within the sector, and where there is work to do,” said Dr Mary Russell, TEQSA Chief Executive Officer.
Students currently enrolled with an Australian higher education provider are eligible to express interest in joining the panel. TEQSA has indicated that the final composition will reflect the breadth and diversity of Australia’s higher education sector.
TEQSA is encouraging applications from students with diverse backgrounds and experiences across a range of institutions, including those who identify with one or more of the following:
- students from regional and remote areas, or who are using a University Study Hub to undertake their studies
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
- international students
- first in family students
- students with lived experience of disability, mental health and/or neurodivergence
- LGBTQI+ students
- students over the age of 21 or students who have returned to study after a break of seven years or more
- part-time students
- students undertaking coursework or research.
TEQSA announced plans for the panel at its 2025 annual conference, expanding its engagement with students beyond elected student representatives.
“The Student Advisory Panel will broaden how TEQSA collects information to help us identify sector-wide and systemic risks. Panel members will not report on, or discuss, matters which relate to individual student experiences or providers,” said Dr Russell.
TEQSA has engaged an external agency for the EOI process. More information is available at elliottgray.com.au/TEQSA.
The EOI process closes on Thursday 30 April 2026.
