Australian International School Launches New Scholarships for High-Achieving Senior Students

The Australian International School (AIS) in Singapore has launched a new scholarship programme aimed at recognising talented and ambitious students entering Years 9 to 12 in 2027, reinforcing the school’s belief that young people achieve their best when given the space to grow, explore and challenge themselves.

Announced this week, the AIS Scholarship Programme 2027 will provide tuition support to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential, specialist talent, and meaningful involvement in their communities.

The initiative reflects a philosophy that has become central to the school’s approach to education: creating an environment where students have the freedom to take risks, learn from setbacks and develop into confident, capable young adults.

“We believe the best things happen when students are given time,” said AIS Head of School Steve Lupton. “Give a student the room to try things, fail at a few of them, and come back stronger, and you start to see what they’re capable of. That’s the student we’re looking for. This scholarship recognises that potential and gives students the support to take their next step.”

The programme offers two distinct scholarship pathways. The General Scholarship provides up to 50 per cent tuition fee support for students who achieve strong academic results, typically performing in the 90th percentile or above in standardised assessments or public examinations. Applicants are also expected to demonstrate broad participation in school life through leadership roles, sport, the arts, clubs or community service.

Alongside this, the Specialist Scholarship offers up to 25 per cent tuition support for students who have demonstrated excellence in Leadership and Service, Sport, STEM and Innovation, or the Arts. The school is encouraging applications from students who have represented their school or country, completed significant projects or competed at a high level within their chosen field.

The scholarships arrive at a time when families are increasingly seeking educational pathways that combine academic rigour with flexibility. AIS offers students a choice of four senior programmes — the Cambridge IGCSE, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), the New South Wales Higher School Certificate (HSC), and IB Courses+, allowing students to tailor their studies to their individual strengths and future aspirations.

The school points to strong graduate outcomes as evidence of the value of this approach. According to AIS, all graduates receive university offers, while 99 per cent gain entry into one of their top two preferred institutions. More than 15 per cent of IBDP students achieve scores of 40 or above, placing them among the highest-performing IB students globally.

Recent AIS graduates have progressed to leading universities including Stanford University, the University of Cambridge, the University of Melbourne and the National University of Singapore.

For Australian education observers, the scholarship programme highlights the continuing strength of Australian curriculum offerings in the international school market. As competition intensifies among global schools across Asia, initiatives such as the AIS Scholarship Programme are increasingly being used not only to attract high-performing students but also to showcase the breadth of opportunities available through Australian-style education overseas.

Applications for the 2027 AIS Scholarship Programme are now open and close on 1 August 2026. For more information and to apply see: https://www.ais.com.sg/secondary/scholarship-programme/
