From today, 1 March, the cost of a Temporary Graduate visa application has doubled, increasing from $2,300 to $4,600.
The Subclass 485 visa is a post-study work visa that allows eligible international students to remain in Australia temporarily after completing their studies. It provides full work rights and is designed to enable graduates to gain skilled employment experience related to their qualification.
This increase is likely to be seen as a further blow to the international education sector, coming on top of the rise in the student visa application charge to $2,000 on 1 July last year. At a time when providers are already grappling with visa processing delays, shifting migration settings and weakened student demand in key markets, the doubling of the post-study work visa fee risks further undermining Australia’s competitiveness as a study destination.
The Australian Government previously increased the base application charge for primary applicants for the Temporary Graduate visa on 1 February 2025 from $1,945 to $2,235, and again on 1 July 2025 from $2,235 to $2,300.
The latest increase does not apply to eligible citizens of Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste.
