International students who love living, studying, and working in the Northern Territory are being encouraged to apply for the 2026 Study NT Student Ambassador Program.
Now in its 10th year, the program offers a unique opportunity for students to represent the Territory’s international education community while developing leadership and professional skills.
Minister for International Education, Migration and Population, Robyn Cahill, said ambassadors play an important role in promoting the Northern Territory as a study destination of choice.
“As part of the Finocchiaro CLP Government’s Rebuilding the Economy Strategy, we are focused on making the Territory the best place to study, work and live,” Ms Cahill said.
“Growing the international education sector and bringing more international students to the Territory is key to driving growth and diversifying our economy. International students bring energy, talent and diversity to the Territory — strengthening our workforce, sparking innovation and building vibrant cultural connections.”
Throughout the year, Student Ambassadors participate in professional development, networking, and community engagement activities — sharing their experiences and helping attract new students to the Territory.
As of June 2025, more than 4,350 international students from over 70 nationalities are studying in the Northern Territory. According to analysis by Deloitte, each student contributes an average of $41,841 to the local economy, underscoring the sector’s growing economic and social importance.
Celebrating 10 years of student voices
Since its launch, around 200 international students have participated in the program, helping to elevate the Territory’s international education profile through storytelling, advocacy, and peer engagement.
Amina Salha, a 2025 Student Ambassador, described the program as transformative. “The Study NT Student Ambassador Program is more than just a title — it’s a platform that brings together passionate students who want to share their experiences of studying, living, and working in the Northern Territory,” she said.
“It’s been a highlight of my journey, showcasing the incredible opportunities here — excellent education, meaningful work experience, supportive people, and a balanced lifestyle surrounded by beaches and natural beauty.”
Apply now for 2026
Up to 20 ambassadors will be selected for the 2026 program, representing students from higher education, vocational training, schools, and English language programs across the Territory. Applicants should demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership, and community involvement.
