Australian universities who outsource admissions and conversion services to QS Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) experienced a 66 per cent increase in Chinese applications for upcoming intakes compared to the previous year, according to information provided by QS. QS also reports a healthy 40 per cent increase in Chinese applications to the UK universities that it works with.
UK universities are seeking to offset a rather large, 48 per cent, decline from other markets with the increase in Chinese applications. In comparison, Australia’s decline from other international markets is only 6 per cent.
In 2024, QS is enhancing its efforts to support universities engaging with the Chinese market, announcing the acquisition of Global Study China, a premier study-abroad counselling business based in Chengdu and Shenzhen.
The QS World University Rankings are also well recognised in China, with QS reporting that its rankings received three times more press and online mentions in China than any other international university rankings and garnered over 100 million readers on Weibo and WeChat in 2023.
