Western Sydney University has announced the first cohort of students has commenced at its new Indonesia campus in Surabaya. Orientation was on 28 August, with undergraduate classes officially starting last week.
Located in Pakuwon Tower in the heart of Surabaya, the new campus features state-of-the-art facilities. In 2024, it will offer a range of Bachelor programs in high-demand fields, including Business (Applied Finance), Data Science, Information and Communications Technology, and Computer Science.
Professor Deborah Sweeney, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President, Research, Enterprise and Global, said Western Sydney University was pleased to bring its renowned educational standards and innovative teaching methods to Surabaya.
“Western Sydney University will deliver world-class education to a key economic hub in Indonesia. Through a focus on teaching, research, entrepreneurship and community partnerships, we’ll provide our students with high-quality, globally recognised undergraduate degrees,” said Professor Sweeney.
“Our study programs at Western Sydney University Indonesia, Surabaya campus have been designed to meet the needs of employers and future jobs that align with the region’s strengths, supporting local economic transformation.”

In addition to its academic offering, the campus will also feature the University’s successful Launch Pad tech start-up incubator, which will foster a world-class innovation and entrepreneurship support ecosystem. Delivering entrepreneurial education and training, new venture building, research commercialisation and industry transformation, Launch Pad is underpinned with business mentoring and access to the latest digital technology capabilities.
The Koala congratulates WSU on this milestone. An official opening event to celebrate the campus will be held in early 2025.
