For the first time, the opening day of the ASEAN–Australia Education Dialogue (AAED) 2025 will be dedicated entirely to English Language Teaching (ELT), with NEAS leading the ELT Leadership Forum on Monday, 1 December.
The full-day program, running from 10:00am to 5:00pm at the St Giles Wembley Hotel in Georgetown, will bring together ASEAN and Australian voices to explore how English can continue to drive education, collaboration and opportunity across the region.
Dedicated to ASEAN, hosted in ASEAN, and facilitated by NEAS, the forum will focus on regional priorities, internationalisation, and professional development in ELT. It aims to reinforce ASEAN–ASEAN collaboration, strengthen Australia–ASEAN links, and highlight the role of NEAS as a global leader in quality assurance.
English has become ASEAN’s common language, a deliberate choice to unite diverse nations, boost higher education pathways, and expand access to international study and global careers. With demand for English continuing to grow, the forum will highlight how quality assurance and best practice in ELT underpin the success of international education partnerships.
The forum is jointly supported by AAED and co-convenor AUN, whose partnership with NEAS was formalised through an MOU signed in 2023. That agreement recognised Australia’s role in collaborating with ASEAN’s education sector, and this year’s Penang Dialogue will further advance that cooperation.
Following the ELT Leadership Forum, AAED 2025 will continue with three days of sessions dedicated to building higher education partnerships, cementing enduring education links between ASEAN and Australia.
Registrations for AAED 2025 open next week. For more information and to submit an abstract see here.
