The Government has tabled its proposed amendment of the Education Services for Overseas Students Amendment (Quality and Integrity) Bill 2024 in Parliament today. TKN will be taking a close look at the Bill and will report our analysis in the coming day/s.
In the meantime, in what is surely going to be seen as an overreach by the international education sector, the draft Bill will require providers to provide details of education agent commissions on request of the Secretary of the Department of Education. This information may include the total dollar amount provided, any non-monetary benefits and the number of accepted students.
TKN anticipates the sector crying foul about being required to provide commercial-in-confidence information to the Government, and on quick read of the Bill, TKN cannot see any explanation about how this information will be used.
The ability to impose enrolment limits also forms a large part of the Bill, with TKN needing time to delve into the detail.
